The classic American amplifiers of the '50s and '60s inspired us to create the, errrrr, American Classic Series. The Ceriatone Champ Ulta amplifier is based on the single-ended 6V6 1x8 combo with tremolo made in the mid and late '60s. Compared to the others in this series, the Champ Ultra has the most similarities with the Prinzetone. Tonally, the Champ Ultra shares more traditional blackface tonestack, known for its clarity and musical, yet subdued midrange.

Similar to the Prinzetone, we also added a neat boost switch that defeats the tonestack. With the boost engaged, the breakup and frequency response are both decidedly more "tweed" in nature. The smaller, singled-ended 6V6 yields a very gradual transition to clipping, and has a particularly sweet sounding character.

We also kept the amazing tremolo circuit, which we believe is superior to the later "optical" type tremolo seen in the larger Blackface amplifiers of this period. Like other Ceriatone amps, we have labored carefully to select the finest components to suit the design, and the Champ Ultra uses our specially designed custom transformers for superior reliability, frequency response, and feel.
