Jimi Hendrix's tones from his Marshall amps are still some of the most sought after tones by guitarists today, more than 50 years after his passing. Over the years, bit by bit, information started surfacing on the internet regarding Hendrix's amps.

One of the biggest breaks came when Dave Weyer, an engineer who worked at West Coast Organ and Amplifier Service back in the 60s and 70s, revealed that he worked on, and modded, many of Hendrix's amps back then, together with proof and information that are hard to dispute.

One of the mods that he regularly did for Hendrix was using 6550 tubes (instead of EL34s) in the Marshalls, along with mods for both reliability (a big issue at the time, especially for extensively touring musicians playing at arena volumes), as well as tone.

The Ceriatone West Coast Mod Plexi is offered based on some of the above information. Name a Super Lead is modified to use 6550 tubes, using custom transformers to run the amp to specs Dave Weyer recommended. The amp was used, amongst others, at Woodstock and many other venues and recordings.

We decided to run the amp with about 600V plates, and 300V screens, with an oversized and extremely well regulated power transformer, into approx. 5K ohms output transformer.

Of importance is biasing the amp cold, at about 25mA, for Class B operation, which is essential for the tone. We have also added a Post PI master volume (PPIMV) as we realize that the opportunity of playing full tilt boogie with such a powerful amp is not common these days.

Whether you are a die hard Hendrix fan, or just a guitarist looking for a great, inspiring tone, this amp will definitely deliver what you are seeking.

Comes with the highest quality components, as is with all Ceriatone products, and with hand wired turret boards just like the originals!
